Welcome PvPers!

If you're reading this, you're probably interested in PvP with Legendary Raiders or looking for more PvP guidelines and answers. We're here to help! The following page will be divided into two sections: Legion PvP with Legendary Raiders, and Beginner's Guide to PvP. As of the launch of Legion, our PvP team is stronger than ever and offers a variety of weekly PvP-related events. We are always looking for fresh blood who share a mutual passion for PvP. The only requirements are a good-attitude and a Vent account with the guild! Please check the in-game Calendar and sign up if you're interested in any of the events. We occassionally hold PvP meetings to discuss the progression of the team(s) and exchange current information on strats and in-game content. Thank you for being here!

Voice Chat

All scheduled PvP activities require Vent (Ventrilo). To get your own Vent account set up with the guild, speak with any guild officer or GM. To download Vent, go to http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php and follow the installation instructions for your computer.

PvP Gear

PvP gear is no longer a factor. You will receive some gear as rewards for PvP, but all gear is now universal. PvP gear with click-to-use will be greyed out during any kind of PvP you do.

Many changes have been made with Legion PvP. For an Overview, visit and read: www.wowhead.com/guides/pvp/legion.

Stat Priority

Stats are determined by your Item Level (ilvl). The higher your ilvl, the better the stats when you enter a BG or Arena. That is why in Legion PvP, optimal content gear, whether PvE or PvP, will serve you best. Sometimes, you will need to equip lower ilvl gear in order to reap larger benefits from stats that are on a piece of gear. For recommended PvP Stat priorities per class, visit: http://www.noxxic.com/wow/pvp.

Macro binding PvP trinkets is no longer usable in Legion. However, there are other useful macros we still like to use to facilitate performance in RBGS, such as:

/assist [Target Callers name]

Honor, Honor Talents and Prestige

Doing random BG's, Arenas and/or Rated Matches grants honor which will scale your Honor level. Honor levels starts 0-50. Every time you receive Honor, you will notice your bar move under the PvP tab. Once you reach Honor level 50, you will become Prestige.

Honor Talents-

As you level up with Honor you will start to open up Honor talents, which are only usable in the PvP world! These talents will be very helpful. If you are unsure of which to pick, please take the time to check out http://www.icyveins.com or even consult a guild member; after all, that is what we're here for!

In Legion Season 1 (ends Dec 13th @ 6PM server time) you can Prestige 4 times. As you Prestige, your Honor talents stay the same, but the rewards you get for going up levels gets better! Also level 4 Prestige receives a mount! That's something to work towards.

Legion Season 2 (begins Dec 13th @ 8PM server time) you will be able to Prestige from 4-8, and the rewards will get better.

Not only do you gain Honor from doing PvP, you also gain Artifact Power. You will grain rewards from leveling your Honor as well as random rewards from PvP in general, even Legendary items.

Rated Battle Grounds

A 10 person team consists of 3 Healers, 3 RDPS, and 4 MDPS. Each Map is different, therefore each will have different strats in order to win.

Target Calling and Strat Calling-

Each RBG team will have a TC (target caller). This person will be calling out who the DPS should be on for kill-target. If you see another enemy player below 20% health call it out; swap to them and burn, then back on the TC's target.

There will also be a SC (strat caller). This person will tell you what your job for that specific Map is. You must pay attention and if you are not sure, speak up and ask for instructions. PvP is a team effort!

Beginner's Guide to Player-versus-Player

If you've always wanted to experience the thrill, excitement, and just plain fun of player-versus-player (PvP) combat but didn't know where to start, this is the guide for you! I’ll be going over the fundamentals of:  playing efficiently, classes, vital macros, rated battleground (RBG) strategy, and arena basics that will get your PvP career off to a successful start.

This is worth reading even if you're an advanced PvPer for some additional tips.  Also, if you need more advice or information, please contact me, Archangeljin, or Slaffsword by in game mail or by posting a question in Legendary Raider's general PvP forum.

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with any sites or YouTubers in this guide.  These people give out great PvP advice; however, they only answer a few questions.  So if you post a question to their video or website and don't get a reply, feel free to ask me, too.

Playing Efficiently

Get the most out of your mouse, targeting, and focusing.  (Also, see the Macro section focus assisting macros.)

An enemy team's arena positions are listed in order from top to bottom with the top player being "arena1" and the bottom "arena5." So, you can focus on them with these macros:

     /focus [@arena1]

     /focus [@arena2]

     /focus [@arena3]

     /focus [@arena4]

     /focus [@arena5]

By setting your focus, you can rapidly target them in macros, examples:

     /cast [target=focus] spell name

     /cast [mod:shift, target=focus][target=mouseover, hard, exists][nomod] spell name

Even though you understand playing your class in Player-versus-Environment (PvE) and that's great.  However, PvP is combat against the living and is completely different.  DPS and Healing are the 2 major focuses in PvP to:

  • Bring down your opponents quickly.
  • Heal yourself and your team.

Your focus is to tear apart the opposing team without dying.  When starting out, you'll find this difficult and may even feel discouraged when you can’t accomplish it.  Don’t worry about that; with practice comes perfection and gear!

As you get more skilled, you'll be adding two more key components to make your team successful:

Kiting your opponents away from their support or objectives.  (People get angry when they can't kill you and will chase you, leaving their posts and allowing you to drag them into a trap or worse!)

Peeling people away to follow you allowing your teammates to take their objectives, destroy the enemy, or both.  (A bunch of DPS chasing you is no good to that enemy healer stuck guarding the flag when your friends show up!)

As you gain additional experience, you'll become more successful at:

  • When and where to kite and peel the opposing player or team.
  • When to use your massive attack cooldown (CD) to get that kill.
  • When to use your defensive CD will keep you alive.

We'll get into all of this more in the Arena and BG sections.

You have two jobs.  Heal your team, of course.  But job #2 is crowd control (CC,) meaning CC the enemy team and stay out of CC yourself.  This requires you to know your class and your teammate's classes.  (More details about this are in BG’s section and Arena section below.)

Stat Priorities

Stats are determined by your Item Level (ilvl). The higher your ilvl, the better the stats when you enter a BG or Arena. That is why in Legion PvP, optimal content gear, whether PvE or PvP, will serve you best. Sometimes, you will need to equip lower ilvl gear in order to reap larger benefits from stats that are on a piece of gear. Rated Battlegrounds  (RBGs)

A 10 person team that consists of 2 to 3 healers and 8 or 7 DPS.  Different RBGs have different strategies to win, so your play, strategy, tactics, and style will be different.

Here is a great video on the view to Rated Battlegrounds:

Here is a video to get a general idea of building a RBG team; however, this team gathering advice works for him and may not work for others.

Melee and Range DPS Class Role

Pretty simple in order:

  1. Interrupts
  2. Locking out the healer
  3. Damage
  4. Attacking flag or cart carrier, a.k.a.  "FC"

Again, pretty simple.  Heal your team and help with CC.  If you can break the CC for your teammates, especially your FC's, do so.

Arenas are instanced areas in which teams of players can compete against each other in deathmatch-style PvP. Unlike battlegrounds, the arenas are not based on objectives, but simply your team's ability to obliterate the other team. Arena matches are available in three size: 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5.

Arenas are challenging because you need to know your class, your arena partner's, and your opponents.  That way, you'll know what your partner and you are best at and how to use it to exploit where the other team's classes are weak.

When you put classes together, you get a team composition a.k.a. "comp."  There are multiple comp plays out there to research and every comp has its disadvantage.  You should know them by heart and work not to get in a bad situation.  My advice is play what you feel is best for you.

2v2 (a.k.a. 2s)

Ah, the easiest of the arenas!  If you’re a DPS you can partner up with another DPS or a healer, doesn’t matter.  If you’re a healer, unless you’re so confident that you can kill the other team, you'll want to partner up with a DPS.

3v3 (a.k.a. 3s)

This is preferably a 2 DPS and 1 healer.  However, if you can’t find a healer, you can substitute a DPS but it will be much more difficult.  (Swapping a healer for a DPS is only recommended to experience players.  For everyone else, 2 DPS and 1 healer.)

Arena Positioning

Here is a helpful video on how to position your team in an arena.

Remember, this is only the basic knowledge.  Any more will consist of going in depth in Rated BGs and, especially, Arenas since they consist of multiple comps and knowledge of classes.

Here are some Youtuber's channels who are 2k+ rated in RBGs and Arenas in their respective classes.  They also have twitch if you like to watch them live.
